"Labor Day" is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September, dedicated to the labor movement:

Beginning in the late 19th century, as trade union and labor movements grew, unionists proposed a day be set aside to celebrate labor.

'Labor Day' was promoted by the 'Central Labor Union' and the 'Knights of Labor', organizing the first parade in New York City. In 1887, Oregon was the first state in the United States to make the Day an official public holiday.

Canada's 'Labour Day' is also celebrated on the first Monday of September.

More than 80 countries celebrate 'International Workers' day on May 1, or "May Day", originally a Germanic pagan holiday that included dancing around a 'maypole'...

Archie Comics has confirmed their 1960's comic book character 'Sabrina the Witch' will be adapted into a Vancouver-lensed, "Buffy the Vampire Slater" inspired, one-hour live-action episodic series for The CW, titled "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina", sharing continuity with "Riverdale":

The show will be written by Archie Comics chief creative officer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, directed by Lee Toland Krieger and produced by Berlanti Productions, in association with Warner Brothers Studios.

"...this dark coming-of-age story deals with horror, the occult and witchcraft. 'Sabrina' will struggle to reconcile her dual nature...

"...of being half-witch and half-mortal while protecting her family and the world from the forces of evil..."

"Sabrina the Teenage Witch", published by Archie Comics was created by writer George Gladir and illlustrator Dan DeCarlo, debuting in "Archie's Madhouse #22" (Oct. 1962).

Original premise of the series is that 'Sabrina Spellman' is a 'half-witch', living with her father's two witch sisters, 'Hilda' and 'Zelda Spellman', in the town of 'Greendale'.

Also living with them is the family pet 'Mr. Salem Saberhagen', a witch turned into a cat as punishment for 'world domination' attempts.

"Freedom Fighters: The Ray"

According to reports, Brit actor Russell Tovey aka 'Midshipman Frame' from "Doctor Who", will voice DC Comics' 1941 superhero 'The Ray' in the CW Seed animated  series "Freedom Fighters: The Ray", followed by a live-action take in The CW's 'Arrowverse', as a 'gay' superhero, fulfilling producer Greg Berlanti's mission (?!) to  step up 'LGBT' themes in all of his TV series:

"Raymond 'Ray' Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists...

"...working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction.

"But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a 'genetic light bomb.'

"The bomb failing to kill Ray, gifted him with light-based powers.

"With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it.

"Calling himself 'The Ray', he was recruited by the 'Freedom Fighters' to fight 'oppression' wherever it exists..."

Berlanti is a producer on the live-action, DC Comics' TV series "Arrow", "The Flash", "Legends Of Tomorrow", "Supergirl",  "Black Lightning" and "Titans".

"The next step is to add a regular character, not just a recurring one, who is openly gay on the next round of these shows," said Berlanti, "because I think that’s important...

"I can remember when there were storylines with gay characters on shows like 'Family' and 'Dynasty' and thinking, I have something in common with that person," Berlanti told The Advocate. "This was way before the internet and all the visibility that has brought with it. But back then, you really felt alone and when I saw those characters on TV, I knew I wasn't alone..."

Previously, as a writer and producer on "Dawson’s Creek", Berlanti tinkered with the main characters sexuality, following up with more 'inclusive' moments in the series "Jack & Bobby", "Everwood", "Brothers & Sisters" and the 2012 miniseries "Political Animals".

According to The Advocate both "Arrow" and "The Flash" have cast openly gay lead actors including Andy Mientus as 'Pied Piper', Wentworth Miller as 'Captain Cold', Victor Garber as the creator of 'Firestorm: The Nuclear Man', and John Barrowman as 'Oliver Queen' nemesis 'Malcolm Merlyn'.

"...I love it when we get to cast openly gay actors in a role that other people may not cast that person in," said Berlanti, "because it’s nice to remind everybody of what they can do."

"The primary agenda has to be telling great stories. As a means toward that, it’s about opening up your own world. And if you do that, I think everything gets better."

The CW is now readying a 'Valentine's Day'-themed episode of "Supergirl" that will see a budding gay romance between 'Alex' (Chyler Leigh) and her new girlfriend 'Maggie' (Floriana Lima).

"Arrow" - Did 'Arsenal' Get The Shaft ?

"Arrow" star Stephen Amell, recently asked about the return of actor Colton Hayes to the show as crime-fighting, 'Roy Harper', aka vigilante archer 'Arsenal',  replied, "..if we end this show'whenever it happens to end, without seeing 'Roy Harper' again, I think we will have made a tragic mistake...":

"...'Roy first appeared in the season one 'Arrow' episode 'Dodger' as a thief who steals the purse of 'Thea Queen'.

"Eventually they reconcile and start dating, though their relationship is on and off. After 'Oliver' saves Roy's life in 'Salvation', he gains an active interest in the vigilante known as the 'Hood' and wants to emulate him. Roy continues to act as a recurring character throughout the rest of the season and becomes a series regular starting in season 2.

"In season 2, Roy fights crime in acts of vigilantism like the Arrow before he is captured and injected with the super-soldier drug 'Mirakuru', enhancing his physical capabilities...

"...giving him superhuman strength and healing, able to punch through solid wood and recover from being shot at point-blank range- but also causing his behavior to become hostile and violent.

"Oliver approaches Roy as the Arrow and offers to train him to help him learn to control both his physical and mental performances and to keep those around him safe. Eventually Roy learns the Arrow's identity and officially joins 'Team Arrow'. In the episode 'Birds of Prey', Oliver calls Roy his sister's nickname 'Speedy'. Roy is not too pleased by this and tells Oliver not to call him that.

"By the end of season two, Roy is cured of the Mirakuru and Oliver gives him a red domino mask. Roy chooses to fight by Oliver's side to save the city from the army of 'Slade Wilson', hoping to achieve redemption, but at the cost of his relationship with Thea.

"Roy assumes the name of 'Arsenal', in a red version of Oliver's costume and equipment. This came to fruition in the premiere of Season 3 of Arrow, when Roy dons a red suit similar to Oliver's and with his own red arrows. In the Season 3 episode 'Guilty', Oliver suggests the name 'Arsenal' after the antagonist of the episode refers to him as 'another weapon in Oliver's arsenal'..."
